Project Summary

Terenure Gate comprises of 51 exclusive A-rated housing units made up of houses, duplex and apartments in Terenure, Dublin for Developer Kimpton Vale

The groundworks package for this project comprised of the initial site strip of over 12000m2 followed by the reduced dig for the structures. SGW was contracted to complete each structure up to and including ground floor slab leaving it ready for Timber Frame installation.

SGW installed all below ground drainage, water, gas and services followed by slip form kerbing, permeable cobblelock paving and road finishes.



100 Bed Nursing Facility and Catering Department, Peamount Healthcare, Newcastle Co. Dublin The proposed works comprise the construction of a new 2 storey healthcare facility for accommodation for 100 people with associated pharmacy, catering and staff facilities, link to existing rehabilitation unit, associated site works, demolition and alteration works to existing structures, car parking, services (including diversions of existing) and mechanical and electrical installation of new services, plant and equipment.

Completion Date: 26.04.2019

This Project is to Demolish existing structure in its entirety down to underside of foundations in accordance with the Code of Practice for Demolition and Subsequent Amendments,





The project consists of the construction of a new 3 storey 24 classroom primary school with general purpose hall and 2 class SNU (Special Needs Unit) with total floor area of 4430 sq. m.

The works also consist of site works including but not limited to cycle storage, bin storage, ball courts, gardens, landscaping, boundary fencing and all associated site development works.

In addition to the above the site works to the school ground will consist of the provision of 92 car parking spaces, drop-off, pick-up and general circulation facilities all on a site c. 3.70 Hectares located at Canal Road, Portarlington, Co Laois.




COMPLETION DATE : September 2018

SGW have been contracted to carry out the demolition and ground works packages for the construction of a new Parish Hall in Kilternan for Main contractor ABM. The first stage of the works consisted of the full demolition of 3 no. Structures, one of which was ajoining a 180 year old listed building, which was completed without a hitch. The listed building was then stripped back to shell and core for renovation.

Due to the site conditions it was determined that a soil retaining structure was required and SGW were instrumental in determining the most cost and time effictive solution as being a ‘king post’ retaining wall, poured against the existing bank. The wall was completed in a safe and timely fashion, with no disturbance to the ground behind, allowing the construction of the of the main build to start.

As the wall was in the design stages,  we proceeded with the bulk dig of over 3000m3 to get the site down to formation level. At present the works are ongoing and we have commenced excavating the foundations, with floor preperation, services, drainage, carparks and up-grading the existing hard landscaping around the entire Church grounds to follow.



This project consists of the construction of a two storey extension to the existing secondary school, including a new community facility. The total area of the proposed development is circa 4592m2; the proposed school extension is circa 3850m2 and the proposed community facility is circa 745m2. The school extension comprises of 8 general classrooms, 8 specialist classrooms, 2 interconnecting lecture rooms, 2 classroom special needs units, sports hall, changing rooms, fitness suite, offices, staff area, sanitary and ancillary accommodation. The extension will increase the long-term enrolment to 1000 post-primary pupils. The proposed community facility comprises of a multi-purpose room, meeting room, youth room, offices, reception area, sanitary and ancillary accommodation. The community facility will have after hours use of the school sports hall, shared changing rooms and fitness studio. The project also consists of ano. additional ball courts to the south of the extension, special needs sensory garden to the south east of the existing school, 32 no. additional car parking spaces within the existing car park area. Additional bicycle parking spaces adjacent to the main school entrance, works to the existing school gates and footpath at Porterstown Road and associated ancillary site development and landscaping works at Porterstown Road.

including the demolish of previous site structures and new foundation,pipework,drainage, blockworks

COMPLETION DATE : September 2018

SGW are currently contracted to carry out the groundworks for this Educate Together National School in Bellarmine, Stepaside. The project consists of the construction of a new school building comprising of a 3 storey Primary school building with 24 Classrooms, general purpose hall, 2 Classroom special needs unit, support teaching spaces and ancillary accommodation, with a total floor area of C. 4600 sq. m.

SGW have completed thje initial site strip and reduced dig with over 14000m3 of material removed from site. The foundations required deep excavation and blinding with over 1500m3 of concrete needed to provide a secure footing for the structure. We then shuttered and poured the strip foundations and brought the entire footprint of the building up to floor slab level, ready for the next contractor.

While the main work on the structure was taking place, we proceeded with the boundary works, including in-situ concrete retaining wall and access ramps, mains drainage and hard landscaping preparation.



Contracting COMPLETION DATE : December 2017

Carlow ETB made up 1 project within the NDFA’s Schools Bundle 5, which involve the provision of 4 post-primary schools, 1 primary school and an Institute of Further Education. Carlow ETB comprised of two structures. 

The first building, Institute of further Education, will consist of 7800m2 of floor space over 3 floors and will cater for up to 1000 pupils in state of the art accomadation. 

The Second building, Post Primary Education, will provide over 9100m2 of floor space and again will accomodate up to 1000 post primary pupils. The campus and its facitities will be shared by the two schools. Smith Groundworks undertook the groun dworks package, consisting of a 45000 m2 of a site strip, initial bulk dig of over 22000 m3, 2800 m of drainage including 2 no attenuation tanks, rainwater harvesting tanks, fire fighting tanks, 6000 m of services as well as 12000 m2 of permeable car parks and all associated roadways, playing courts and hard landscaping.

There was a piling mat constructed within the footprint of the each building and once all the piles had been placed and broken down, SGW poured the ground beams and brought the two buildings up the ground floor level including all internal drainage and services.

This is a rapid built project that comes under constant scrutiny from the NDFA and independent quality control auditors ensuring all the work and material is off the highest standard and carried out in the strictest safety conditions.
